Hard work and high expectations - Trish reflects on her expectations of the 2011 decibel Performing Arts Showcase / 11 September 2011

I've got to be honest, I'm pretty tired after last week. We had some long days putting the Creative Case for Diversity website together ready for the symposium tomorrow. That said, I am now sat on the train London-bound to meet Colin for our week-long coverage of the decibel Performing Arts Showcase in Manchester and I'm excited. I've never been to Showcase before but after attending planning meetings with Arts Council and reading reports from previous years, I've got high expectations.

Not unexpectedly, I'm very keen to go to performances by disabled artists to see their work, both tour-ready or in its developmental stage. However, what excites me even more perhaps is the potential for conversations and sparking ideas with a whole range of diverse artists. I like the ideas stage of projects. Its the very reason I have made a career out of assisting disabled artists in developing their work and fundraising to make it happen. It is also why DAO is such an amazing forum, which I am proud to help facilitate. It should be interesting to observe how this range of artists interact, find out what they have in common, what their differences are, and what the creative possibilities are in collaboration or innovative programming.

I will be reporting on the shows and discussions throughout this week, along with our team of DAO writers. Joining Colin and I will be three New Voices writers: Monika-Akila Richards, John O'Donoghue and Gary Thomas and our guest writer, bringing an Asian perspective to theatre criticism, Amardeep Sohi.

Don't forget to check out tomorrow for a live stream of the symposium. You can also tweet questions to @creative_case and join in discussions using the #creativecase hashtag.
